LEARNING FROM HOME CHANGES STUDENTS’ SOCIAL LIFE

Since March 2020, Covid-19 entered to Indonesia. The government of Indonesia commands the citizens to stay at home to stop the spreading of Covid-19 in Indonesia. Therefore, all schools and colleges in Indonesia were close. However, education is one of the important things in Indonesia. Education must keep going in every situation. To solve this problem, learning from home become the best solution that is offered by the government. Students can still get education and stay at home at the same time.
Learning from home means that students study from home via online through application. This program has positive and negative impact to students. The students have their own opinion about this program. Some students said that they more like offline class than online class because they more understand the material if study in offline class. They directly meet with their teacher or lecturer. The other students said that they more like online class than offline class because they do not need to go to the class. They can study in home and do other activities like eat, clean the house, etc.
The impact of learning from home also
can change students’ social life. The transformation is positive and negative. The
positive transformation of students’ social life because learning from home are
student become more active in class and students become more interactive with
their social environment. The negative transformation is students become more addicted
to smartphone. They also more like read social media than read book.
Students that have difficulty when asking question and giving opinion in
offline class become more active when the class is online. Students not brave enough
to ask question and give opinion in offline class because they feel afraid and shy.
They afraid their question or opinion is nonsense and their friends will mock him
or her. They still not confident to say in public so, they choose to keep
silent. Student feel more confident to ask question and give opinion in online
class because they do it through application, they do not speak in public. Learning
from home changes passive students become active students.
Learning from home also makes students more interactive with their
social environment. During learning from home, students spend much of their
time in home. It makes they get bored. If they get bored just in home, they
will visit their neighbour. They will play with their sibling, their cousin or their
nephew to disappear the boredom.
The negative transformation of students’ social life because learning from
home is students become more addicted to smartphone. Learning from home makes
student must always stand by with their smartphone because they study through
smartphone. Sometimes the schedule from teacher or lecturer is irregular so,
the students must always check their smartphone in order that they do not miss
the information. The habitual of the students that always use their smartphone makes
they more like to read social media than read book. After online class, usually
they will open their social media such as Instagram, Twitter or YouTube to entertain
themselves than read a book.
Learning from home has positive and negative side that affected the
students’ social life. Learning from home makes student become more active in
class, students become closer with their family and more interactive with their
social environment. Learning from home also makes students become more addicted
to smartphone. They more like use smartphone and play social media than
read a book.
